Our Directors
Sawley Lock O'Callaghan lies under the directorship and management of Craig Lock , Damian Brogden, Max Sayer and Mike Cameron.
Approximately 100 years experience in surveying and engineering is shared by the directors, who have expertise across a broad range of skills in consulting services to the public.
Each director is a Licensed Surveyor and continues to practice in the fields of cadastral surveying, engineering surveying and civil engineering.
Damian Brogden joined the firm in 2002 as a director. He has been in private practice for 25 years since graduation as a surveyor.

His experience in private practice has ranged across a wide variety of business administration including;
- administration of quality systems,
- financial operations
- risk management
- occupational health and safety and
- industrial relations.
Damian is a past president of both the Association of Consulting Surveyors in South Australia and a past chairman of the Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA) regional Group for SA.
Damian has recently been elected to the SIBA national board of management.
He has had 18 years experience in the administration of Quality Systems and holds a Certificate in Quality System Auditing.
Damian is the director responsible for overseeing the firm's financial and business systems including; Financial monitoring & reporting, OHS&W, Human Resources and Marketing.

He is a Licensed Surveyor and also supervises surveying and engineering activities for Major Projects including management of estate development projects.
Damian believes that the advancement of the surveying profession into the wider areas of spatial information consultancy will allow the firm to deliver exciting new products and re-define how traditional surveying activities and services have relevance to the public.
Damian is a passionate supporter and member of the Sturt Football Club and South Australian National Football League competition and keenly awaits the Double Blues next premiership.
He is also a member of the Semaphore Surf Life Saving Club Board of Management.

Craig Lock commenced his employment with the firm in 1980 and has worked in both Adelaide and in Mt Gambier during his surveying career.
Craig became sole director of the practice after his father, Bryant, retired in 2000 and until formation of the current firm's management structure in 2002.
Craig is a Licensed Surveyor and consults to our long standing client base in the South-East region of South Australia. Craig continues to be actively involved in field survey operations for these projects.
He has interests in Basketball and has played District level with the Norwood Basketball Club.

Max Sayer commenced his career with Sawley Lock O'Callaghan in 1986 and has had a wide range of experience across all areas of land surveying.
Max has served on the divisional committee of the Institution of Surveyors, SA and several other professional and technical committees.
Max is a Licensed Surveyor and has also spent his entire working career in private practice with a number of South Australian firms.
Max is the Technical Director of the firm and oversees the field survey, drafting and various other technical operations of the firm. This role involves setting the operational procedural policy for the firm including the coordination of the firm's technical surveying resources and standards.
Max grew up in the township of Appila in the mid-North of South Australia. He maintains this connection with the rural sector by actively consulting in the Mid-North region to a wide variety of clients including local government, primary producers and other professional bodies. |

Max is a supporter of all things involving the Port Adelaide Football Club and has also published works on aspects of Australian Football history.

Mike Cameron is a licensed surveyor based in our Mount Gambier office and supervises many cadastral and engineering survey projects as well as performing a variety of civil engineering designs for both private clients and local government authorities.
He joined Sawley Lock O'Callaghan in 2003 and has recently become a director of the firm.
He has been involved in private practice for 15 years and has worked in Adelaide and Darwin before settling in Mount Gambier.
In 2000 Mike began managing the survey section of a large Darwin based engineering firm for 2 years before relocating to Mount Gambier and gaining his cadastral surveying license.

Mike currently manages all types of projects in the South-East office of the firm including major sub-divisions with respect to;
- design and planning
- survey and documentation
- project management
- civil engineering
He also manages and is actively involved with large engineering and infrastructure surveys and a variety of cadastral surveys for local government and private clients.
Mike's role involves managing the daily operations in scheduling field crews in the Mount
Gambier office and supervising the completion of projects to best practice standards.
Observing the fluctuating fortunes of the Essendon Bomber's occupies some of Mike's leisure time as well as keeping up with his family of 2 growing young boys.

Key Staff

Michael Spry is the firm's Land Division Manager based in our Adelaide Office and joined Sawley Lock O'Callaghan in 2003. He has worked in the private sector of the surveying industry for over 21 years.
He has extensive experience and technical background in;
- survey drafting and Lands Titles Office property transactions
- searching Lands Titles Office plan and title records and other historical information
- office administration and managing both Torrens and Community Title land division projects
His supervisory role as Land Division Manager includes the following key functions;
- Land Division
- Roads (Opening & Closing) Act Applications
- Various Real Property Act Applications
- Administration and Consultation with various utility and statutory authorities

Michael has qualifications in Survey Drafting, Business Management and is presently studying Conveyancing.

The administration management of our Mount Gambier office is supervised by Mardi Whan.
Mardi is responsible for the documentation of the firm's accounting and financial systems and overseeing the firm's reporting to satisfy legislative requirements.
She also manages the daily administration of the Mount Gambier office‘s ongoing projects.
Mardi liaises with clients and the various statutory authorities involved in the projects the firm undertakes in the South East region of SA.
This includes monitoring and reviewing both active and archived client files to ensure smooth management of project correspondence.
Mardi has 17 years finance industry experience working in the banking sector and is a Netball Committee member, North Gambier Tigers.
